These
three images show the rather messy
layout of components in the early 1976 Decimo Vatman Mini series. Note that the
itron VFD tube is mounted midway to the
board to reduce the overall thickness. All the other components are
laid flat to also minimise the thickness. Only one of the models had
a right hand mounting rubber for the round VFD tube, making it prone to
sitting off-angle if it slips out of the plastic guides. The use of the two NEC ICs is split by the
Matsushita IC in the M model. It looks like the model name suffix
represented "M" for memory and "S" for scientific.
The two wires (red and blue) going off to
the top right are the main power cables connected to the battery compartment.
These elongated connectors are the penalty of having the power socket at
the opposite end to the batteries. The power socket wires are long
enough to allow th emain boadr to be moved away for access without the
removal of the socket.
At the bottom you can see the ribbon
connector to the GICO keyboard assembly. As each model has some spare
holes it appears that the keyboard assembly back-board was a generic deign
to cater for every layout option.
