Comments:

Nice compact, heavy calculator with basic functions. The on/off switch at perfect thumb position on the upper left and side. The logic is sound though the lack of recovery is annoying. Typical of this era in design for Sharp. Bright clear VFD display helps but the metal surround is prone to scratching with all that painted design. Original case is black leatherette, open top with embossed "Sharp" on the front and "Made in Japan" on the back. Very similar to the earlier EL-8016. |

| Logic comments: | The (CE) button is used to clear last entry of a number and the (C) to clear the whole calculator. |
| Overflow on number input is suppressed, keying in a ninth digit is ignored | |
| There is automatic constant on multiply and divide only | |
| An overflow error shows the result and "C" ("E" if negative) in the far right (first) digit and is not recoverable | |
| Divide by zero results in "0.C" and is not recoverable | |
| Negative numbers are flagged by a "-" sign in the far right (first) digit thereby allowing full eight digit negative numbers |

A comprehensive, four language,
32pp two/one colour manual in a colour that matches the box very well.
Notice the use of the old name "Compet" in this booklet. Printed in Japan with reference numbers "IT971<1683>". |
|
| It came with a Guarantee Card which, oddly, is wider than the box, so must have been supplied separately. It measures 125mm x 88mm and is four-sided (fold over) card printed black and red. It gives two addresses: | |||
| Sharp
Electronics (UK) Ltd. 107, Hulme Lane Manchester M10 8HL |
Sharp Electronics
(UK) Ltd. 357, Uxbridge Road Southall, Middlesex |
||
| It also came with a "Sharp ElSI MATE International Warranty System" which outlines conditions and lists all world wide contact details. It measures 260mm x 96mm and and is folded twice to compress it. Printed in one-colour dark blue. | |||
