Guest book: Archive 2004-2005

One nice thing about running a web site is the numerous emails you get from people interested in the same things as you.  Aside from the "how much is it worth" requests I get some very useful information and some lovely stories that add depth to the dry images and descriptions of Vintage Technology.  Please be aware that your email to me could end up in this page without your specific request not to (please request removal if offended, or just want your name removed).   Comments in [] are edited out by me as some items are too sensitive to put on the web.

(I'm still recovering this detail from an ex-computer)

Subject: Ultra 6840 TV
Msg:  Dear Emil,
I am sorry to bother you with my e-mail but maybe you can help me...
I own a good-old black&white television called Ultra 6840 made by Thorn Consumer Electronics Ltd. It is in perfect condition and is working very
well.  I was wondering how old my tv is or when did they stop manufacturing that particular model... Maybe you can answer that...I hope.
Thanks for your help in advance!
Reply: Hi Robbie
Thanks for your email.
Not totally sure, I will have some information somewhere but have not got around to indexing hundreds of magazines.  My best guess is later than 1961, when Thorn bought Ultra and before 1974 when the Ultra brand name was deleted.
If it works well then I assume it must be 625-line rather than 405, so this would put it after 1964 when 625 lines were introduced in the UK.
Best regards
Emil
Reply: Dear Emil,
Thank you so much for your kind help and the information you provided!
I felt that it is really old. But it being at least 10 years older than me is something I wouldn't have expected...
Now I'm proud that I watch London Tonight on it :)
Thanks again!
