It's a Hit!
OK, a bit obvious this one, you may think, but I nearly voted this a maybe. Why? Read on...
Whilst we all have dozens of remote controls in our house for TV, video recorder, satellite system, hi-fis and DVD players, (and perhaps lights, curtains, garage doors security cameras, video-cams, car locking systems etc.) why, oh why was there not a world standard. I'm fed up with umpteen controls (that always lose their flaps and battery compartment covers) that all look the same. I have even had one appliance lock-up another because the infrared remote signals were incompatible. The attempts at generic controls either don't work properly, or are so expensive (like the learning ones) that you could almost buy a TV for the same price.
Hopefully, blue-tooth / Wi-fi / IP address (or something) will solve this problem - the only prospect that saves the remote control from a maybe.
